Becoming a sauna installer

A practical path for tradespeople who want to move into sauna installation work.

Sauna installation sits between carpentry, light construction, electrical coordination, ventilation, waterproofing, and customer communication. The best installers understand both the build sequence and the final bathing experience.

Most candidates enter from finish carpentry, remodeling, hot tub service, shed construction, or field installation roles. A strong portfolio should show clean trim work, reliable measurements, job-site discipline, and comfort working from drawings.

Electric heater work usually requires a licensed electrician, but installers who understand clearances, control placement, conduit planning, and inspection flow become much more valuable to employers.

If you are new to the category, start by learning heater clearances, bench ergonomics, vapor barriers, ventilation, door swing, wood species, and the difference between indoor, outdoor, modular, and custom projects.
